The Stadium: Dodoma
Dodoma Stadium (~32,000 capacity) is one of the venues being developed for the tournament — the first time the capital stages football at this level. The whole city will be part of the occasion.
Getting to Dodoma
The SGR electric train from Dar es Salaam is the smart way in — modern, fast (roughly 3–4 hours) and scenic. Domestic flights land at Dodoma Airport, and intercity buses connect from every major city.
Getting Around
Dodoma is compact. Bajaji and boda-boda (motorbike taxis) cover most trips for pocket change; taxis are easy to arrange through hotels. The stadium area will have match-day traffic plans. It's also one of the easiest host cities to self-drive — see our car hire guide.
Climate
June–July is dry season in central Tanzania: warm days (~26°C), cool nights, and almost no rain. Ideal football weather.
Where to Stay
Here's the honest picture: Dodoma has fewer hotel rooms than any other AFCON host city in Tanzania. Demand will crush supply during match weeks. Fans should book the moment fixtures are announced — and consider day-tripping by SGR from Dar if rooms run out.
| Option | Best For | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| City-centre hotels | Walkability, restaurants | Limited stock — book first |
| Government-district hotels | Business-grade comfort | Modern, mid-to-upper range |
| Guesthouses & lodges | Budget fans | Plentiful but basic; verify before booking |
| Day-trip from Dar via SGR | When Dodoma sells out | Morning train in, night train back |

What to Do in Dodoma
Wine Country
Surprise: Dodoma is Tanzania's wine region. Local vineyards produce reds and whites you can tour and taste — a genuinely unique host-city experience.
Capital Landmarks
See the striking modern Parliament (Bunge), the Gaddafi Mosque — one of East Africa's largest — and the Anglican and Catholic cathedrals that anchor the old town.
Local Flavour
Central Tanzanian food is hearty: nyama choma (grilled meat), ugali, and mtori stew. The Central Market is the place for spices, grains and people-watching.
