The Venue: New Amaan Complex
The New Amaan Complex in Zanzibar City (~15,000 capacity) makes Zanzibar the most atmospheric venue of AFCON 2027 — the first time the islands host continental tournament football. Expect an intimate stadium and an island-wide party.
Getting to Zanzibar
Fly direct into ZNZ from across Africa, Europe and the Gulf — or take the 2-hour ferry from Dar es Salaam to Stone Town. Book ferries and flights early around match dates.
Getting Around
The stadium is in Zanzibar City, minutes from Stone Town. Taxis and ride-hailing cover the city; dala-dala minibuses and tour transfers reach the beach villages north and east. Narrow streets make a hired driver easier than self-drive here — see our car hire guide.
Island Etiquette
Zanzibar is a predominantly Muslim island — dress modestly away from beach resorts, especially in Stone Town. Fans who respect local culture are warmly welcomed.
Where to Stay
Two very different bases: historic Stone Town near the stadium, or the beach coasts an hour away. June–July is already Zanzibar's high season — AFCON on top of that means booking now is not optional.
| Area | Best For | To the Stadium |
|---|---|---|
| Stone Town | Historic hotels, rooftop restaurants, closest to matches | ~10–15 min |
| Bububu / west coast | Mid-range, beach + city balance | ~20–30 min |
| Nungwi & Kendwa (north) | Best swimming beaches, resorts, nightlife | ~1 hr |
| Paje & east coast | Kitesurfing, boutique stays, laid-back villages | ~50–60 min |
